To Freedom
"To Freedom”, Georgia 2016
Georgian people are passionate by heart. They like to toast while sitting at the table. During meals or drinking evenings, dozens of toasts are made. Each toast is an elaborated thought, exposing feelings and wishful dreams. It usually lasts several minutes.
It is a moment when people enjoy sharing the same time and space in each other's company. It is a way to bring up a conversation on a subject. Georgians often toast to the ones we love and to the ones which are no longer among us. “To freedom” and “To peace” are also the most common subjects for toasts.
Tbilisi, the capitol, was rebuilt 10 times in the last decades, due to earthquakes and wars. Russia has been at war with Georgia, since the dismantling of Soviet Union. Georgian people value Peace.
Rui focused on the Freedom of Georgians way of living, their peoples, animals, their thankfulness for the great Nature, and general being in the world - “გაუმარჯოს (Gaumarjos)!"
Georgia became one of the first Christian Countries in the world in the 1st Century. Religious attachment appears to be one of the few limits to their freedom. To conserve their culture, traditional costumes and rituals were passed on to future generations. Both religion and tradition dictated the moral and ethic boundaries of Georgia.
