About Tatiana Macedo
Macedo (b. 1981, Lisbon) holds a BA in Fine Arts, Central St Martins College of Art &
Design (London, 2004), and a Masters Degree in Visual Anthropology, New University
of Lisbon (2012).
In 2015 Macedo won the first Sonae Media Art Award, a major
Visual Arts Award in Portugal. Her first film Seems So Long Ago, Nancy (2012)
premiered at DocLisboa International Film festival, Portuguese Competition Features
and was shot entirely at Tate Britain and Tate Modern, London. The film was
exhibited in Film Festivals and Art Galleries internationally including the Stedelijk
Museum Bureau (Amsterdam, 2012) and Tate Britain (London 2012/13). It won the
First Saw Film Prize by the American Anthropological Association - AAA (Washington-DC, 2014).
Recent Solo Shows include Foreign Grey at Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery
(Vila do Conde, 2014), Staff Only at MNAC-MC, National Museum of Contemporary
Art (Lisbon, 2013/14) and Seems So Long Ago, Nancy at Tegenboschvanvreden
Gallery (Amsterdam, 2014).
Recent group shows include Sonae Media Art Prize at MNAC-MC, National Museum
of Contemporary Art (Lisbon, 2015/16), Ano Zero –Coimbra Biennial of Contemporary
Art (2015), Rooms with a View – Manifesta Biennial of Contemporary Art,
(Amsterdam, 2013), Jaz Aqui, Na Pequena Praia Extrema, ZDB, (Lisbon, 2013),
Visões do Desterro at Caixa Cultural do Rio de Janeiro, (Rio de Janeiro, 2013).
Macedo is an artist in residence at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, for the year of 2016,
supported with a Grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
