Semen Prosiak (1931, Zhashkiv, Ukraine) lives and works in Halle (Germany).
"Semen Prosaic was born in a family of photographers and graduated from a photography college.
During World War II, as a kid he was deported to Germany and spent several years in the Ravensbrück concentration camp with his mother. They both escaped extermination and survived with the help of Polish prisoners who secretly changed their Jew tags to Polish ones. (Information provided by Oleksandr Feldman)
Prosiak belonged to the senior generation, but he was closely connected with his younger Dnipropetrovsk colleagues, and his work influenced some of them.
In 1980 his first solo project (Sedniv) was exhibited in Dnipropetrovsk, and later successfully shown in Ukraine, Russia, and Lithuania.
