Doctor Anthony Bannon is an art critic and historian, recognized for his work by the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. He was the seventh director at George Eastman House, the International Museum of Photography and Film –He was its longest serving director.
He began his career as an arts writer for The Buffalo News (1969-85) and next served as director of the Burchfield Penney Art Center (1985-96; 2012-17), where he led the Center to achieve American Alliance of Museums accreditation and the NYS Governor’s Arts Award for institutional excellence.
His exhibition of photographs by Roger Ballen was selected by the Lucie Awards in Photography as one of the top five exhibitions in the world in 2010. Dr. Bannon also received for The George Eastman House the NY State Governor’s Art Award.
Tony is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and the University at Buffalo, he majored in Media Study and received his PhD in Culture Studies.
