Throughout history the creation of images and art has been significantly concerned with issues of identity, such as gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, etc. Yet it was not until the latter half of the twentieth century that specific social movements developed, addressing the connections between identity categories and systems of power, and ultimately coining what we know today as “identity politics.”

This thematic issue of the VASA Journal of Images and Culture seeks submissions of manuscripts, portfolios, or videos related to this subject of identity politics.

Proposals should address the intersections between visual materials/culture, identity, and the importance of making such connections. Topics may include, but are not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, postcolonialism, and disability.

For submission guidelines refer to VJIC Submissions.
