Kirill Meshkov
Kirill Meshkov is a new generation Kharkiv artist who developed further the black-and-white social reportage aesthetics of the Kharkiv School.
His 2012 Chuguyev in Pictures furnished images of his hometown Chuguyev near Kharkiv with absurdist captions revealing the grotesque atmosphere of the complete deterioration of its provincial life style and living standards.
The captions read: “Chuguyev has a good communication system, but no subscribers” (telephone poles with wires), “Welcome to Chuguyev” (a concrete slab instead of the entrance arch), “A Chuguyev Metallurgist Entrepreneur on His Way Home with a Catch” (images depicting scrap metal collectors) .
