Boris Redko

About The Artist:

Boris Redko (b. 1959) belonged to the photographic community of Kharkiv since early 1980’s. In 1986 he joined the Gosprom group. His aspiration (which he shared with the other group artists) was street photography. Redko used simple range finder cameras and never cared much about dust, scratches or grain while developing black and white film. He also almost never cropped images while printing.

Redko’s work is not critical on the Soviet drawbacks. Rather, its humor and grotesque offer an ironic look at the absurdity of everyday life of late Soviet years, its deteriorating condition and the spirit of Kharkovites to overcome the disaster.
