Oleg Sentsov

Oleg Sentsov, a Ukrainian film director, is serving a 20-year term in a prison camp in the Northern Siberia in Russia. He was arrested in Crimea in May, 2014, after Russia occupied and annexed the peninsula. He is a Ukrainian citizen (though he is ethnically Russian) who was born in Crimea. He helped deliver food and supplies to Ukrainian military cantonments when the Russian troops were invading Crimea. On 21 July 2015, Sentsov went on trial for terrorism in Rostov-on-Don in Russia, and was sentenced to 20 years.

Oleg Sentsov has been on hunger strike since May 14, 2018. He is demanding the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners in Russian prisons. VASA joins in the international protest and calls for Sentsov`s immediate release.
